The Medstar Montgomery Hospital Women’s Board Annual Picnic and Bazaar was held on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013. Over 30 members of the Sandy Spring Lions Club worked over 200 volunteer hours to help make this event happen.
The Lions started work at 7am on Saturday morning staging tent supplies. At 8am a full complement of Sandy Spring and Olney Lions arrived to help put up the tents and move them to their proper locations. At 10am we were assisted by the boys from Our House, who drove stakes and delivered tables. Tent setup was completed at 12:30pm.
On Tuesday, the day of the event, Lions helped shuck all the corn that was to be served during the day. Lion Bill Thomas also organized a complement of members to cook corn all throughout the day in 4 three-hour shifts. Utilizing a giant boiler and an overflow pot, 72 ears of corn could cook at once.
Immediately after corn cooking was complete, at 8pm, takedown commenced. All the tents were taken down and stored away for next year in 2 and a half hours of frantic activity. Many thanks to Lion Narcy for organizing the tent construction and takedown.
