Lions from our club participated in the 2013 Olney Days Parade last week. A total of 5 Lions worked to build and prepare the float on Friday, then on Sunday we had four Lions ride the float and help to break it down after the parade.
Our float was in the third stage of the parade, after the Olney Fields of Screams float and before a group of children from a local daycare center. This was a lot less daunting than the year there was a monster truck behind us revving its engine throughout the whole parade.
The three members on board waved and threw candy to the onlookers.
District Governor of District 22-C and member of the Sandy Spring Lions Club was interviewed on May 21, 2013 by JC Hayward, who is the 2013 guest of honor on the Lions Club float at the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC.
Ms. Hayward and Governor Don spoke of Lions responses to tragedies such as Superstorm Sandy and the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma that had just occurred, about the parade, and about Lionism in general.
